Office Pod

OfficePod was conceived to be a space to work in with the smallest viable foot-print.

in itself this requires many design considerations but key to the success is to redefine the space as a typology of its own. on the domestic market ‘home offices’  are typically cabins or shed or studios that are located in the garden or garage and are little more than displaced spaces from the main home or office.

the office pod is a space where the whole intent is to work…a machine for working in…enter – do you work – leave and get on with the rest of your day.

Key principles for a very small space is to not make it feel like a very small space and and to promote focus. The next principle is simplicity…no electronic wizardry…if the sun is to bright then close the blind, if its too hot then open the window…

The principle of a photographers ‘infinity’ curtain is used to blur the corners and edges from peripheral view thereby removing reference point from the experience of the space…in effect making the space feel bigger without it being bigger.

To-date the office pod has been a great success, with both the commercial market as well as the domestic market with companies like the BBC, the NHS and Google taking pods and making it a firm favourite with schools and universities. The latest incarnation is in the World Trade Centre in Amsterdam.

Studies are now in progress to see how this expertise can be translated into a universal residential experience.

Project Pod-ular looks to expand upon the basic pod by using a series of modules that can be combined in different configurations to create spaces for micro-living.

The Audio Glade is a proposal for a space in which private or sensitive telephone or web calls can be made within busy offices. The internal skin can be applied to the standard Pod to provide flexible and fun seating whilst improving the acoustic separation provided by the Pod.

Pod-Ket is an internal skin that looks to maximise storage capacity and provide flexibility for fitting out the basic Pod, whilst minimising the impact upon the internal space.
